DC Department of Health Application for CDC RFA IP25 0007 - The District of Columbia Department of Health (DC Health) is committed to protecting and promoting the health of all District residents. The Community Health Administration’s Immunization Division plays a pivotal role in achieving this mission by enhancing immunization efforts and reducing vaccine-preventable diseases. This is done by supporting widespread access to vaccinations through a multi-faceted approach, including public education, provider training, policy advocacy, and targeted interventions to address disparities in vaccine coverage. Despite high immunization rates among school-aged children, significant gaps remain among younger children, adolescents, and adults—particularly for influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations. Geographic and socioeconomic disparities further challenge vaccine uptake, especially in Wards 5, 7, and 8, where lower-income residents face barriers to healthcare access. To address these issues, DC Health is implementing strategic initiatives aimed at increasing vaccine access, promoting vaccine confidence, improving data collection and reporting, and strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations. This proposal outlines a comprehensive plan to enhance immunization program infrastructure, expand outreach efforts, and leverage data-driven approaches to improve vaccination rates across all populations. Through strengthened surveillance systems, community engagement strategies, and provider support, DC Health aims to achieve and sustain high immunization coverage, mitigate health disparities, and protect residents from vaccine-preventable diseases. The proposed initiatives align with national immunization goals and position DC as a leader in public health prevention efforts.
