Strengthening Immunization Access and Confidence in American Samoa - The American Samoa Immunization Program (ASIP) is applying for all three components of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to strengthen vaccine-preventable disease prevention and response. As a key program under the American Samoa Department of Health (DOH), ASIP is dedicated to providing high-quality, family-centered, and comprehensive immunization services to protect the health of all residents. American Samoa faces ongoing challenges with low vaccination coverage, limited access, and vaccine hesitancy. Misinformation, cultural beliefs, and logistical barriers continue to erode public confidence and create disparities in vaccine uptake. ASIP aims to address these barriers by implementing targeted strategies that promote vaccine equity, increase immunization rates, and enhance community trust. ASIP’s work plan focuses on the following seven core strategies outlined in the NOFO: Strengthen Program Infrastructure and Management: Invest in key personnel and resources to sustain a resilient immunization infrastructure. Increase Vaccine Access: Ensure equitable vaccine distribution by identifying and prioritizing high-risk populations. Improve Vaccination Equity: Reduce disparities through community engagement, knowledge-building, and tailored interventions. Promote Vaccine Confidence and Demand: Implement culturally relevant communication strategies to build trust and encourage vaccination. Enhance Data and Evaluation: Strengthen Immunization Information Systems (IIS) to improve data accuracy and program effectiveness. Strengthen Program Support for Partners: Expand collaboration with healthcare providers, educators, and community organizations. Enhance Vaccination Response Readiness: Develop robust systems and protocols to respond effectively to vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. By executing these strategies, ASIP will strengthen immunization coverage across all age groups, improve health equity, and ensure timely responses to public health threats. This initiative will enhance the resilience of American Samoa’s immunization program and safeguard the health of its population.
