Adults residing and working in post acute and long term care settings are at high risk of vaccine preventable disease complications. However vaccination coverage in long term care especially among staff remains low. The PALTC resident population is uniquely at risk for infection due to their age and medical complexity through multiple comorbid conditions and a complex medication regimen and functional impairment and cognitive decline and frailty. In addition a principal vector of transmission of infectious pathogens to these residents is the facility staff. Raising vaccination rates of both residents and staff of PALTC settings continues to be a challenge. Access to COVID vaccines for staff has been complicated by commercialization and billing for residents is challenging. Low confidence in vaccine safety and efficacy as well as vaccine fatigue misinformation and disinformation negatively impact vaccine acceptance and compliance. As a result PALTC populations are at an increased risk for serious consequences of vaccine preventable diseases including hospitalizations and deaths. In this year of the cooperative agreement the focus will be on completing the cost benefit analysis and disseminating the change package.
