The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) proposes a partnership among the Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs) to address the need to increase vaccine coverage across American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults currently experiencing disparities. This project will cover the United States AI/AN population through a national partnership among TECs to build TEC public heath infrastructure and capacity for and implement flu and COVID-19 vaccination related activities. The Northwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (NWTEC) will convene the group of TECs. The NWTEC will work with TECs to coordinate national effort to enhance adult vaccination among all AI/AN people. This effort will address the Healthy People 2030 vaccine objectives of: • Increase the proportion of persons who are vaccinated annually against seasonal influenza, and • Increase the proportion of adults age 19 years or older who get recommended vaccines The NWTEC will assist the TECs to provide CDC with AI/AN specific information to enhance the evidence base of effective interventions to improve vaccination coverage and to identify and implement strategies to reduce disparities in adult vaccination coverage. To achieve this the NWTEC will establish subawards with other TECs The NWTEC will coordinate the implementation of best practices related to flu and COVID-19 vaccine activities and will provide technical assistance and support to TECs to develop deploy and evaluate their adult immunization messaging and educational campaign. We have identified staff to coordinate the TECS, coordinate and advise on vaccine activities undertaken by all TECs, deploy the educational campaign across all TECs to ensure factual evidence based, culturally appropriate messaging across Indian Country that utilizes trusted community voices, is grounded in a tribal context and addresses AI/AN vaccine hesitancy. We will convene a group of TEC representatives to collaborate with the CDC Learning Hub, Data Hub, and Media Center to review, modify, and improve resources that can be more broadly shared. By using the network of TECs around immunizations we will increase the number of partnership and collaborations for AI/AN specific vaccine messaging and be able to tailor to regional tribal partner needs. If successfully implemented these collaborative activities may increase both the acceptance of vaccines and access to immunization services for AI/AN communities experiencing disparities.
