Through the Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems grant, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH): - will utilize the workforce funding to retain current state employees and contractors funded through academic partners, local health departments, community partners, and non-profit organizations. - transform the operations of the agency to assure efficient workflows, improve training and employee success, and commit to offering model public health services and quality improvement through public health accreditation.¿ - will be able to build an infectious disease information system that is both efficient and modern. This investment will allow staff to focus on public health service delivery instead of duplicate data entry or IT system failure. Additionally, standalone systems will be retired for a more comprehensive and inclusive EpiTrax during the first year of the project. In future years, more stand-alone legacy systems will be retired for a more comprehensive and robust single system. As a result of this award, and the other awards provided by the CDC, Nevada will be better able to proactively plan and prepare for public health emergencies and respond timelier and comprehensively to daily and ongoing public health needs of the diverse communities served. Across each of the investments and projects under this award, DPBH will ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are core frameworks considered in each area. As recommended, DPBH has prepared a proposal to reflect that 40% of the funds projected for Strategy A1: Workforce be provided to the already formed or forming local health authorities including Carson City Health and Human Services, Washoe County Health District, and the newly forming Central Nevada Health District. Additionally, DPBH will be working with the CDC Foundation, the University of Nevada, Reno, the Nevada Association of Counties, the DHHS Office of Minority Health and Equity, and the State Office of Epidemiology as additional subcontractors.
