The Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County d/b/a Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) plans to bolster its infrastructure and workforce to address the gaps in its ability to respond to public health emergencies like COVID-19. The outcomes of Component A1 Workforce include hiring diverse staff from the Marion County community by increasing the size and capabilities of the MCPHD workforce through hiring staff and offering multiple professional development core competency trainings; and improving the wages and protections for MCPHD staff by increasing salaries to ensure they are equitable across the organization and competitive with the market. The outcomes for Component A2 Foundational Capabilities include improving organizational systems and processes and strengthening foundational capabilities such as achieving public health accreditation status, enhancing a student internship program, and establishing key community organization, local government agency, and health-related organization partnerships to influence public and corporate policies on health to improve the public health of Marion County. The proposed project will strengthen the public health workforce, improving the organization’s ability to serve the most vulnerable residents of the city of Indianapolis and Marion County.
