Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems - PROJECT ABSTRACT SUMMARY   Columbus Public Health (CPH or Department) is a nationally accredited local public health agency serving a population of just under one million residents. CPH’s mission is to protect health and improve lives in the communities it serves. The Department is supported by a budget of $50 million and over 500 full and part time employees who deliver over 40 unique programs and services in the community. This funding provides an opportunity for CPH to strengthen its critical public health infrastructure needs in the near term by allowing the Department to make strategic investments in two Component A strategies: 1A - Workforce and 2A - Foundational Infrastructure. These investments will fortify CPH’s internal systems and operations while leveraging, strengthening, and expanding external partnerships which are critical to addressing disparities and improving the health and vitality of the community. CPH anticipates it will achieve the following outcomes as a result of these investments: Strategy A1 Workforce: Short Term - Increase hiring of diverse staff, improved staff competency, increased staff engagement and well-being Intermediate – Increased size and capabilities of the public health workforce Long Term: Accelerated prevention, preparedness, and response to emerging threats Strategy A2 Foundational Infrastructure: Short Term – Improved organizational systems and processes Intermediate – Stronger public health foundational capabilities Long Term – Improved public health outcomes
