The inclusion of injuries and violence in new health and development policy agendas (e.g. 2021 World Health Assembly resolution on ending violence against children, UN General Assembly Resolution 74/299 declaring a Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030) provides an opportunity to accelerate injury and violence prevention efforts everywhere. For the period 2022-2027 covered by this Cooperative Agreement, the focus will be on translating global policy promises into national preventive action and victim service provision and monitoring the uptake and impact of such actions at country level. Under this agreement, WHO aims to increase the number of key stakeholders trained to utilize evidence-based practices in addressing injuries and violence as public health issues; increase the use of systematic approaches for collecting violence and injury data by ministries of health, the criminal justice sector, and the transport sector, and increase the uptake of violence and injury prevention tools, guidance, and resources by public health practitioners and researchers. The Cooperative agreement provides for an average of US$375 000 per year over five years, of which US$325 000 is for violence prevention work, and US$50 000 for road traffic and unintentional injury prevention. Prevention of violence work will entail: " Developing a WHO handbook and WHO Academy training course on health worker recognition of and response to child maltreatment. " Updating the WHO TEACH Violence and Injury Prevention curriculum and training course. " Maintaining the INSPIRE Implementation Working Group. " Supporting the World Conferences on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion. " Providing technical support for INSPIRE implementation in LMIC. " Producing national, regional, and global prevalence estimates of violence against children. " Updating the WHO Violence Prevention Information System. " Preparing a second global status report on preventing violence against children. " Promoting a social determinants approach to the prevention of violence against children. " Developing a world report on violence against health workers. " Developing a second edition of the INSPIRE: Seven strategies for ending violence against children technical package. " Preparing a handbook on the implementation of evidence-based parenting interventions to prevent child maltreatment. " Enabling high-level government support for uptake of evidence-based actions to prevent and respond to violence against children. Road traffic and other unintentional injury prevention work will entail: " Updating the WHO TEACH Violence and Injury Prevention curriculum and training course. " Supporting the World Conferences on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion. " Preparing a new road safety technical package. " Developing a falls prevention and management technical package. The project as a whole and its components will be subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation. Opportunities for sharing and learning with other stakeholders will be provided through the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children, the INSPIRE Implementation Working Group, and the UN Road Safety Collaboration, among others.
