Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (SWLAHEC) is applying for funding for the Cooperative Agreement to Support Navigators in Federally-facilitated Exchanges. Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana (NHL) is a consortium made up of two Louisiana AHECs. NHL is requesting $1,964,927.00 to provide Navigator services in the whole state. SWLAHEC will subcontract with Central Louisiana AHEC and employ 20 FTE Navigators (twenty FTE) in their respective areas of the state. All Navigators are expected to maintain their positions post-OE, January 16, 2024. The parishes (counties) include: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, De Soto, East Baton Rouge , East Carroll, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Iberia, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, La Salle, Lafayette, Lafourche, Lincoln, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Orleans ,Ouachita, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John The Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, West Feliciana, and Winn. NHL Navigators will provide information and services in a fair, accurate, and impartial manner. This includes providing information that assist consumers with submitting the eligibility application, explaining their health coverage options, understanding advanced premium tax credits, and helping consumers make informed decisions. NHL Navigators will provide targeted assistance to vulnerable populations, focusing particularly on those who are disproportionately without access to health insurance coverage, specifically those affected by Medicaid Unwind. These include young adults, the disabled, agriculture community workers, education and healthcare community
workers, job service community workers, those with limited English proficiency, African-American communities, Asian communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, rural communities, and low income households.
