The New Orleans BioInnovation Center will create an accelerator program with the goal of increasing the number of marketable health security technologies from Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. Our approach will be to leverage our incubator operation and work with research institutions to identify promising technologies and bring together the network of resources that will prepare the researchers and entrepreneurs for the full business development process. The objectives are to (1) identify relevant technologies, researchers and entrepreneurs; (2) enroll prospective clients in a 12-week accelerator program designed to substantively assist them in the commercialization process; (3) create usable documents (such as business plans, financial models, and pitch decks) through seminars and one-on-one meetings with a host of professionals, investors, and others; (4) identify funding opportunities for accelerator graduates; (5) introduce graduates to our network of support service providers. The expected outcomes of the project are to identify a group of 5 to 8 companies to participate in each accelerator class and provide them with the tools necessary to attract additional funding either through grants or investments.
