The applicant, University of California San Diego, proposes a five-year Military-Civilian Partnership for Trauma Readiness project hosted at the Level 1 Trauma Center at its Hillcrest campus. The goal of the project is to enable a military trauma teams to provide, on a full-time basis, trauma care and related acute care the trauma center. The objectives are: 1) to provide dementia specific care, e.g., care
management fully integrated into the services provided; 2) to train staff, students and volunteers; 3) to establish a system infrastructure to support services to individuals with early stage dementia and to their caregivers; 4) to develop linkages with community agencies; 5) to expand the assessment and intervention services; 6) to evaluate the impact of the added services; 7) to disseminate project information. The expected outcomes of this project are: 1)The military trauma team will provide trauma care and acute care on a full-time basis; 2) Military caregivers will have demonstrated improved
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) in trauma, disaster and acute care areas; and 3) Military caregivers and trauma team will become facile with trauma team quality and performance improvement and demonstrate characteristics of a High-reliability teams (HRT). The products from this project are: 1) a final report, including aggregate KSA evaluation results and effects on the Trauma Center; 2) a website; articles for publication; 3) data on driver assessment and 4) enduring educational materials; abstracts for national conferences.
