This project seeks to support the military-civilian partnership between Harborview Medical Center and the US Army for ongoing training of military medical team personnel in advanced trauma care. The goal is to ensure an optimal training environment in a high volume, high acuity civilian trauma center. Military team members, including physicians, surgeons, nurses, nurse anesthetists, and combat medics, will be fully integrated into the clinical practice as assigned by the US military. This will ensure not only sustainment of their skills between deployments, but will enhance their experience with complex trauma patients. In addition to their individual experiences, quarterly in situ team training will also be arranged to ensure their ongoing cohesiveness as a medical team. This grant will support the existing program and allow its expansion to include additional personnel. The program will be evaluated by monitoring the volume and complexity of patients cared for by these providers and their experience with the team training.
