Public-Private Disaster Health Opportunities Cooperative - The World Institute on Disability is facilitating the Public Private Person Collaboration for Health Equity project by applying their expertise, input from national experts, and current body of knowledge to improve disaster health equity. This project builds local partnerships that establish working remediation strategies that reflect whole community inclusion and are locally implementable. The overarching project goal is to provide evidence-based, policy to practice strategies for unique and diverse jurisdictions to create inclusive partnerships that improve health access for marginalized populations that experience disproportionate health impact in disasters. This is accomplished through locally embedded public, private, and person disaster health cooperatives that includes public health, healthcare and emergency management agencies, private industry, and representation from disproportionately impacted populations, who are supported through nationally applicable materials, tools and education to work towards sustainable health equity as an overarching approach. The overarching objectives are to: 1. identify health equity barriers and systemic needs; 2. pilot local stakeholder analysis in multiple jurisdictions; 3. produce national guidance documents; 4. develop accessible national curriculum. The anticipated outcomes include: 1. quantifiable use of tools and training designed to impact health disparities; 2. creation of comprehensive emergency plans that increase the whole community participation; 2. modifications to disaster related care that demonstrate acquired knowledge and understanding 3. disaster planning and response that decreases health disparities for marginalized populations. The project products include: 1. a summary of the current body of knowledge; 2. a community involved disaster health strategy that includes practitioners and policy makers; 3. a disaster health equity toolkit; 4. a national virtual training; 5. a summary report of findings, outcomes, and impact.
