Today, Callen-Lorde is a full service community health center, and is the global leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) health care, transforming lives in our communities through excellent comprehensive care, provided with cultural sensitivity and free of judgment. Callen-Lorde is welcoming to all, regardless of ability to pay. Callen-Lorde is requesting Fiscal Year 2024 Behavioral Health Service Expansion funding to expand access to behavioral health care to underserved populations at Callen-Lorde Bronx. Callen-Lorde Bronx is located within Primary Care, Dental and Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas, as well as within a Medically Underserved Area. Callen-Lorde serves as a magnet site for patients who come from across New York City and beyond, seeking culturally competent care. Due to the distribution of the service area zip codes throughout New York City, Callen-Lorde defines our service area as consistent with the boundaries of New York City, with a focus on serving the low-income, underserved target population. Callen-Lorde’s target population consists of the low-income and medically underserved residents in the service area, including homeless persons and LGBTQ persons. With FY 2024 BH Service Expansion funding, Callen-Lorde will address the community need for behavioral health care services, significantly expanding access to behavioral health services by opening a behavioral health clinic on the second floor of our Callen-Lorde Bronx location.
