The City of Lawrence, located 25 miles north of Boston and 5 miles south of New Hampshire, is a city of immigrants since its beginnings with the industrial mills of the mid-nineteenth century. GLFHC offers comprehensive primary care services to the surrounding greater Merrimack Valley, with five health center locations in Lawrence, and one each in Methuen and Haverhill. GLFHC operates two school-based sites at Lawrence High School and Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover to serve students and their families. GLFHC has steadily grown its Health Care for the Homeless Program and provides care at various community–based sites at shelters, drop-in centers, and food pantries throughout the Merrimack Valley. Greater Lawrence Family Health Center is the site of one the nation’s first Teaching Health Centers, training family care-based physicians to serve underserved communities in the Greater Lawrence area and across the U.S. GLFHC is a member of the Community Care Cooperative Accountable Care Organization offering care coverage through MassHealth along with Medicare programs. Greater Lawrence Family Health Center has provided comprehensive primary care services to residents of the Merrimack Valley since 1980 with a mission to improve and maintain the health of individuals and families in the Merrimack Valley by providing a network of high-quality, comprehensive health care services and by training health care professionals to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population. To extend this mission, GLFHC plans to serve 58,817 unduplicated patients in 2026. GLFHC provides comprehensive primary healthcare with integrated behavioral health services, access to?mammography and pharmacy, disease prevention and education, case management, nutrition, HIV/AIDs?services, and substance abuse counseling, treatment, and referral. GLFHC offers an income-based sliding fee scale to ensure access to services regardless of ability to pay. Widespread outreach and education are communicated through weekly podcasts, newsletters, across social media platforms, and at community events. The service area population is approximately 522,470; 25% of which are low income and 12% live below the poverty level. Analysis of patient data and community needs assessments identifies detrimental health indicators and health-related social needs that are prevalent in the primary service area at much higher than statewide rates, including obesity, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, cancer, behavioral health and substance abuse. The service area population is majority Latino and Spanish-speaking, largely from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. As such, great efforts are maintained to ensure that providers and support staff are proficient in Spanish, and to provide cross-cultural full spectrum care. GLFHC is grounded in the community, partnering with local organizations and additional health care providers to achieve the common goal of improved health and wellness outcomes for With continued HRSA support, the leadership and experience of the Board of Directors and executive team, outstanding clinical teams, and a collaborative network of community partners, GLFHC will continue to be a leader in the provision of comprehensive health care services to all lifecycles across the Greater Lawrence service area.
