NEW START project will expand comprehensive medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) services for those who have experienced or are at high risk of OD in Tarrant and Parker Counties. - North Texas Addiction Counseling & Education (NTACE) will implement NEW START to reduce repeat opioid overdose and overdose death among adults with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) who have experienced a non-fatal overdose or are at high risk, serving Tarrant County, a 900-square-mile county of more than 2.1 million residents, and rural Parker County through NTACE's Weatherford office. Over five years, the project will serve 314 unduplicated patients, growing from 50 in Year 1 to 66 annually thereafter, with local data showing adults 18 to 44 account for 64% of opioid overdose deaths and approximately 42% of NTACE's current population experiencing co-occurring mental health disorders. Services include Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) assessment, methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone, counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, recovery coaching, transportation, tobacco cessation, and infectious-disease services, with universal overdose prevention education and opioid overdose reversal medication (OORM) distributed through vending machines at three locations. Goals include reducing illicit and prescription opioid misuse, expanding treatment access, and increasing community-based overdose response capacity. By project end, 100% of patients will receive FDA-approved MOUD, 95% will receive Recovery Support Services, and 85% will report reduced opioid misuse at six-month reassessment.
