Preventing Youth Overdose - Project Abstract Preventing Youth Overdose: Treatment, Recovery, Education, Awareness, and Training Short Title: PYO-TREAT Opportunity Number: TI-26-017 The proposed CHLA PYO-TREAT Program (Preventing Youth Overdose: Treatment, Recovery, Education, Awareness, and Training; No. TI 26 017) is a multilevel initiative in Service Planning Area 4 (SPA 4) of the Central/Metro area of Los Angeles County (LAC) designed to increase awareness among adolescents and young adults (AYA), ages 10-25, about the risks of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, while expanding access to prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. The program will implement a comprehensive outreach and training strategy to engage school personnel, parents and caregivers, healthcare providers, faith based organizations, and other community partners to increase their capacity to recognize, respond to, and treat opioid overdoses. Through this approach, CHLA will deliver primary prevention education, strengthen community understanding of OUD/SUD-including the role of MOUD and other MSUD—and increase access to evidence-based interventions aimed at supporting AYA health and well-being. The goals of the project are: 1) increase school and community capacity to prevent substance misuse and overdose among adolescents and young adults (AYA) 2) increase access to comprehensive substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services for adolescents and young adults (AYA), including screening, brief intervention, treatment, and coordinated linkage to ongoing care and recovery support services, and 3) increase the capacity of healthcare providers to identify and address substance use in their adolescent and young adult patients. If funded, CHLA will reach at least 1,716 individuals over the three-year project period through education and training, healthcare provider capacity building, and direct substance use prevention and treatment integrated care services. The program expects to reach 540 individuals through a combination of prevention and treatment care in year 1, and 588 individuals in years 2 and 3 subsequently.
