Families United Project - Serving Children and Adults in Need (SCAN) is a nonprofit behavioral health organization headquartered in Laredo, Webb County, Texas. SCAN requests $545,000 in Year 1 funding for the Families United Project in Webb County. It will provide comprehensive, family-centered, evidence-based treatment and recovery support services to support children, adolescents, and young adults with DUD and/or COD, and their families/primary caregivers in South Texas. Project Name: Families United Project Geographic Area: Webb County, Texas (City of Laredo and surrounding communities) Population of Focus: Webb is home to 272,823 residents (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, 2024) of whom 30.9% are below 18 years of age (County Health Ranking & Roadmaps, 2025). The project will serve a minimum of 25 unduplicated children, adolescents, and young adults in Year 1 and at least 80 per year in Years 2-5, for a total of 345 individuals over the 5-year project period. Age Range: Children (ages 11 and under), adolescents (ages 12-17), and young adults (ages 18-25). Clinical Characteristics: Individuals with SUD and/or COD, including alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, polysubstance use, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Strategies and Interventions: Families United will implement A-CRA/ACC; Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Motivational Interviewing (MI); Seeking Safety; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG); and Alternative Activities. Services will include comprehensive SUD screening and assessment, personalized treatment planning, integrated outpatient treatment, medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD/MAUD), case management, recovery support services, family engagement, and aftercare. Project Goals: (1) Increase access to evidence-based SUD/COD treatment for youth and families in Webb County; (2) Reduce substance use among enrolled youth; (3) Strengthen family systems as a foundation for long-term recovery; (4) Promote sobriety, self-sufficiency, and healthy lifestyles consistent with SAMHSA Strategic Priorities. Measurable Objectives: Enroll >25 unduplicated youth in Year 1 and >80 per year thereafter; achieve >75% of clients completing treatment demonstrating reduced substance use at 3-month reassessment; achieve >80% retention in services at 90 days; connect 100% of enrolled youth to at least one recovery support service.
