The Seminole Nation’s TOR Grant Project focuses on addressing the opioid crisis among Seminole Nation citizens and other individuals from federally recognized tribes residing in the tribal jurisdiction & surrounding areas. The project targets individuals across the lifespan, prioritizing those aged eighteen and older who are experiencing opioid use disorder (OUD). This initiative aims to deliver culturally appropriate, evidence-based prevention, medication-assisted treatment, and coordinated recovery support services, ensuring that all activities align with the cultural values and needs of the community.
The project has several key goals and objectives, including developing and implementing a Community Needs Assessment to identify specific needs and resources within the community. Following this, a Strategic Action Plan will be established to formalize partnerships and interventions, such as a Wellness Court Treatment Plan for Drug Court violators. The project also aims to increase workforce capacity through training and hiring a culturally appropriate Peer Recovery Support Specialist, enhance community outreach and prevention strategies, and increase the dissemination and utilization of naloxone. By achieving these goals, the project strives to reduce opioid misuse and overdose deaths, improve access to treatment and recovery services, and strengthen the overall health and resilience of the Seminole Nation.
