Pawnee Nation TOR Program - The Pawnee Nation’s Tribal Opioid Response grant purpose is to assist in addressing the overdose crisis in tribal communities by increasing access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and supporting the continuum of prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid use disorder (OUD), co-occurring substance use disorders (SUD), and stimulant misuse and use disorders. The Pawnee Nation successfully managed a previous TOR grant for (5) years so they have the managerial, technical, and administrative capabilities necessary to carry out another TOR grant. For this cycle, the selected strategies will aid further project efforts around OUD and SUD recovery services, prevention, and harm reduction prevention while incorporating Pawnee culture, language, and traditional practices. The Pawnee Nation TOR Program will be a collaborative effort between various programs at the Pawnee Nation, including the Division of Health and Community Services, Cultural Resources Division, and the Iriratutakicisu Initiative. This is in addition to the current tribal and non-tribal mental health/substance use disorder treatment providers. These vital partnerships will help with evidence-based and cultural adapted practices to not only strengthen our knowledge in Pawnee culture, language, and traditional practices, but also OUD and SUD recovery, prevention, harm reduction. Our target population is Native American and other demographically underserved groups in Pawnee County regardless of sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, economic status, race, or ethnicity. The Pawnee Nation understands Pawnee culture, language, and traditional practices are a foundation for a more comprehensive, holistic approach to health and wellness. Moreover, building upon the existing infrastructure, expanding recovery supportive services, providing education and training, and improving the delivery of services will help with all aspects of OUD and SUD treatment, recovery, prevention, and harm reduction within AI/ANs, especially Pawnee tribal members, within Pawnee County.
