Strategic Opioid Response Grant - Alabama - Alabama is requesting the amount of $16,176,149 per year for the next three years with the State Opioid Response project beginning September 2024 to September 2027. With these funds our plan is to serve 36,000 individuals with treatment, prevention, and recovery support services. The over arching goal is to reduce the number of overdose deaths related to opioid use while simultaneously addressing stigma and reducing disparities. Our focus while using these funds will be to 1) expand the use of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder including the use of these medications in jails within counties hardest hit by opioid overdoses. This goal will also include saturation of Naloxone products across the state; 2) increased efforts toward decreasing infant morbidity and increased efforts with Opioid substance using pregnant and postpartum women; 3) educate and provide information on Opioid Use and Stimulant Use disorder to local communities using increased outreach efforts and information dissemination; 4) continuation of prevention efforts in the STR strategic plan 5) enhance Alabama efforts in recovery housing that utilize evidenced based recovery support housing models; 6) enhance data collection efforts and using this data to improve strategic responses to the opioid crisis. The Office of Substance Use Treatment and Prevention (OSUTS), an office within the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH), will provide the administration and oversight of this project. ADMH will engage with community providers to 1) ensure that individuals in need of these services will be provided appropriate information through outreach efforts to their community; 2) ensure the compliance of these services are appropriate with regular compliance visits 3) provide technical assistance when needed. OSUTS will work closely with the Office of Peer Services another division within ADMH, to monitor and assist with recovery support and recovery support housing efforts. The quantitative goal is to reduce overdoses and overdose deaths in the state of Alabama by 35%.
