Akiak Tribal Opioid Response - Project Name: Akiak Tribal Opioid Response Project Project Summary: The Akiak Native Community will utilize culturally informed and responsive community and school-based prevention education activities to create awareness of the dangers of opioid use, teaching community members and school-age youth to learn to recognize signs of opioid use among peers and teach coping skills to abstain from opioid use and misuse. In addition, our program will also include Harm Reduction services and activities. Population(s) to be served: Community members of all ages will receive outreach services and activities, prevention education, and harm reduction support, and individuals with opioid use disorders (OUD) living in Akiak will receive comprehensive support services. Strategies/Interventions: Provide opioid prevention education and awareness using Calricaraq, a Yup'ik-based wellness program and curriculum, along with culturally responsive opioid prevention education curriculum to all ages to promote abstinence from opioid use and misuse. In addition, we will provide limited harm reduction services in the community and will refer clients in need of further services and treatment to our regional Tribal health care provider, YKHC.
