Residential Treatment Program for Pregnant or Parenting Women - The Center for Health Care Services seeks to reintroduce residential treatment services for women with substance use disorders who are pregnant or post-partum. The project will offer trauma-informed treatment to predominantly young women of color. Services will be easily accessed through a low-barrier point of entry and will be trauma-informed. Infants or young children will be able to live with their mothers at the treatment facility. Project Name: Residential Treatment Program for Pregnant or Parenting Women Populations to be Served: CHCS data shows that among the most under-served, under-resourced subpopulations in San Antonio are young women of color with alcohol use disorder (AUD), Substance use disorder (SUD) or opioid use disorder (OUD). For this reason, CHCS proposes a population of focus that consists of women under the age of 30 who are low income (95%) and have a SUD or OUD (80%) or AUD (20%); 60% will be Hispanic, 20% will be Black. Also, because of the age of the population of focus, it is expected that 90% will be predominantly English speakers. Ad defined by SAMHSA, 100% will be from an underserved community greatly impacted by SUD. Goals and Objectives: The project goals are to : (1) Restore gender specific, trauma-focused, family-centered and culturally relevant AUD, SUD and OUD treatment and recovery support for low income women and children; and (2) ensure diversity, equity and inclusion within residential treatment and recovery support. Primary objectives are (a) to provide trauma informed residential treatment services (counseling, medication assisted treatment, case management and connections to housing, education, employment and supportive services) to 10 pregnant women and 34 post partum women each year; (b) to provide recovery supports, including peer support services, connections to recovery communities, and support for reintegration into the community, to 44 women per year; (c) to provide physical and development screenings, connections to educational services, counseling and mental health services, and social services to 15 children in residence per year, and connections to community services to promote school readiness and health growth and development in children not residing with their mother; (d) to provide group and family counseling to children, partners and family members (chosen by the participant) to build their capacity to support the woman's recovery; (e) provide harm reduction services to women contemplating treatment entry (outreach, motivational interviewing and linking to treatment) and harm reduction resources to participants during and after treatment (fentanyl test strips, overdose education, distribution of naloxone or another FDA approved overdose reversal medication) and (f) appoint a volunteer Steering Committee with the expertise required to advise project staff on treatment and resource design, implementation and impact. Number of People to be Served: The project will serve 44 women per year or 220 over the five year grant period.
