UPSOM-MOUD Training Program - University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Training Program (UPSOM-MOUD) will partner with the University of Pittsburgh Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU) to integrate MOUD and other substance use disorder (SUD) education into the medical student curricula to train medical students to deliver effective patient MOUD treatment within diverse clinical settings.
The program’s population of focus is UPSOM’s medical students. The program will train 140 unique students in year 1, 140 in year 2, and 140 in year 3, for a total of 420 students trained during the entire project period. The program’s population of focus is UPSOM’s medical students. In Fall 2021, UPSOM’s medical student enrollment was 140 students, of which 63% were White, 15% Asian, 11% Hispanic/Latino, 4% Black, and 2% identified as two or more races. The primary language was English, with under 10% of students speaking English as a second language. Students were 55% female, 45% male, and 10% identified as LGBTQ+. UPSOM students range in age from 20 to 39. The geographic catchment area includes UPSOM medical students living in Allegheny County, PA.
