Mendocino Coast Clinics is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center established 27 years ago to serve the geographic catchment area of the western coastal region of Mendocino County, California (about 50 miles of the county’s north and central coastline known as the “Lost Coast”) and includes the City of Fort Bragg (pop. 7,302), the second largest city in the county where MCC operates three primary care clinics. Mendocino County has seen a significant rise in drug overdose death rates, which have almost doubled in the past 5 years to 38 deaths / 100,000 persons (2017-2019 data) and has the second highest drug overdose death rate of all California counties. A large majority of county residents with OUD are not receiving treatment (87%), which indicates a major gap in MAT services for the 697 residents with drug dependence and 1,199 residents that use pain relievers non-medically. MCC proposes to develop a dedicated MAT clinic in a newly rented office that includes an expanded staffing plan of new hires to focus on comprehensive MAT services. MCC is projecting to double its capacity to serve additional MAT clients with a total of 324 new MAT patients served with the requested federal funds (in addition to existing MAT clients). MCC has developed a strategic staffing plan that is adequate to serve the expected number of participants and will hire an 0.5 FTE NP/PA with DATA-waiver, 0.5 FTE LCSW with SUD/OUD Specialty, 0.5 FTE Nurse/LVN, 1.0 FTE Peer Recovery Specialist, and 1.5 FTE Case Managers.
