OhioGuidestone Workforce Support Program - The Workforce Support Program will serve 50 individuals annually and 250 individuals over 5 years. Individuals ages 18+ residing in Ohio throughout Cuyahoga, Summit/Medina workforce areas who have a gap in the workforce due to the direct prevalence of substance use disorders. Clients will have access to workforce development services such as occupational and academic training, upskilling, case management, and placement and retention services. Goals of OhioGuidestone’s Workforce 360°’s Workforce Support Program include: • Increase the coordination of SUD and Workforce services by filling cost and program gaps of non-Medicaid billable services; • Increase client engagement and completion of training: integrate resources and employment supports with the local area One-Stops; • Increase the marketability of SUD clients by offering training/certifications that are driven by local labor market information; and • Increase employment retention for SUD clients through 12 months of extended program supports. Each participant will be supported jointly by Workforce and SUD staff. At OhioGuidestone, we recognize that seeking new employment can be triggering for clients, and therefore an individualized approach is utilized when developing plans for training and employment, taking into account that every person has a unique path to recovery and will need to identify workplaces that match their specific needs and interest. The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) modalities are particularly indicated for programs supporting employment and SUD management, because they impact client thinking and cognitive road blocks, as well as the way they perceive challenges, especially in regards to employment. MET is the foundation for services with this population using stagewise approach interventions. Although some employers may understand the connection to the opioid problem and the inability to get qualified employees, our target population in Ohio needs integrated workforce and SUD services to stabilize substance use supports, and effectively reenter the workforce. “Many employers are struggling to fill jobs because otherwise qualified applicants have a history of substance abuse or addiction.” In addition, “We also know that folks in recovery have a better chance staying sober if they have a job.”¹ ¹Retrieved from https://www.clevelandfed.org/newsroom-and-events/publications/community-development-briefs/db-20180531-the-opioid-epidemic.aspx.
