Mnwade Wellness Project - The Mnwade Wellness Project will expand existing, and establish new, prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid use disorder (OUD) and stimulant misuse and use disorders in the Gun Lake Tribal Community by utilizing evidenced-based and cultural interventions. The project will serve 50 individuals who are at risk for opioid and stimulant use and misuse over the course of the two (2)-year project.
The target population are those who use Gun Lake Tribal Health Center (GLTHC) programs and services; this includes GLT staff, GLT Citizens, Native Americans from other tribes, and household members of Tribal Citizens. The geographic catchment area where services are delivered is rural with limited access to hospitals and health centers.
In order to address the needs identified in this project, staff will accomplish one (1) goal. Goal 1 - Expand existing, and establish new, prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid use disorder (OUD), as well as stimulant misuse and use disorders. This goal will be accomplished through the following objectives: Objective 1 - Support access to medication management for complex substance use disorders and mental health care by continuing, and expanding, remote tele-health services. Objective 2 - Implement community recovery services to support patients, as well as the families of patients, suffering from OUD and stimulant misuse and use disorders. Objective 3 - Support substance abuse clients by integrating culturally-appropriate treatments into the GLT Behavioral Health Program. Objective 4 - Provide treatment transition and coverage for patients reentering the Tribal Community from criminal justice or other rehabilitative settings. Objective 5 - Support the ability of the GLT Behavioral Health Program to implement, and expand, services and treatment to patients by providing Behavioral Health staff with training. Objective 6 - In coordination with other federally-supported efforts, update existing response plans to address future OUD and stimulant use and misuse disorder programming needs.
The GLT will use Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) directly through its HHS medical clinic and Behavioral Health programs or by referral to appropriately credentialed agencies, Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Care, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to achieve the goal and objectives outlined in this project.
