Two Feathers Youth & Family TREE Project Proposal Abstract Two Feathers Native American Family Services The Two Feathers Youth & Family TREE Project will provide a coordinated multi-system family centered approach to provide enhanced and expanded comprehensive evidence-based substance abused treatment services to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth and their families. This system will operate in partnership with Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District (KTJUSD), K’ima:w Medical Center, United Indian Health Services, and Indian Health Services. The Youth & Family TREE Project will provide individual and group early intervention, therapeutic and recovery support services to 25 AI/AN youth (125 youth and families over the lifetime of the project), age 12-18, and their families each year including: substance abuse treatment services, weekly therapy to the youth at school, intensive culturally-based wraparound and recovery support services for youth and their families, appropriate referrals to more intensive levels of residential treatment and psychiatric treatment. Culturally-based early intervention education will take place within the local schools. All services will be provided within a culturally appropriate and relevant framework for the community being served. The Two Feathers Youth & Family TREE’s plans to serve 250 AI/AN youth through the following goals and objectives: Goal 1: Build a more effective culturally-based and trauma-informed structure for provision of SUD and co-occurring mental health services for AI/AN youth. This includes the development of a billable service structure. Goal 2: Provide a weekly open-ended culturally-based Youth Group at the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District to 25 AI/AN youth per year. Goal 3: Provide a spectrum of intensive substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services to 25 high acuity AI/AN youth and their families annually. Services will be targeted towards youth with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorder and will include individual therapy with a Licensed Psychologist, using Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET) for Youth, services from a Substance Abuse Counselor, coupled with highly supportive case management wraparound services, a weekly in-school Youth Group, as well as residential treatment and psychiatric telemedicine services, as needed. Goal 4: Provide culturally-based Early Intervention services to 50 youth per year. Services will be provided in the local school and will emphasize local AI/AN cultural tradition, teaching and education. Topics will include: drumming, talking circle, education on ceremony, dance, stick game, regalia making, canoe making, stick making, beading, basket making.
