To address the complex needs of Oklahoma’s youth, ages 12 to 18, and transitional aged youth, ages 18 to 25, living in Tulsa County, Youth Services of Tulsa will provide a comprehensive, family-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based, coordinated, and integrated outpatient substance use and co-occurring system of care for youth and their family/caregivers to reduce substance use, promote recovery, and improve health and quality of life.
Project Name: Outpatient substance abuse services for Tulsa County youth ages 12 to 25
Populations to be served: Tulsa County youth, ages 12 to 25, with substance abuse and/or co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders and their families/caregivers
Strategies/Interventions: Our strategy to address the complex needs of Tulsa County youth with substance abuse issues and their families/caregivers is to: 1) Expand access to a more comprehensive, family-centered, trauma-informed, and integrated outpatient system of care; 2) Employ evidence-based screening, intake and assessment tools, treatments and interventions when providing services; 3) Expand staffing capacity with the addition of a Substance Abuse Counselor (to the 3 we have), an Admissions Specialist, a Family Support Coordinator, and a Case Manager; 4) Maintain a network of partners to offer additional services; 5) Collect and analyze data to inform continuous quality improvement efforts and for reporting.
Project Goals and Measurable Objectives: Goals: Increase access to a comprehensive, family-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based, coordinated and integrated outpatient substance use and co-occurring system of care for youth age 12 to 25 and their family members in Tulsa County. Goal #2: Decrease the number of youth age 12 to 25 in the Tulsa County initiating substance use including the use of tobacco. Goal #3: Increase abstinence from drugs, alcohol and tobacco and increase mental health recovery for youth age 12 to 25 in the Tulsa County. Goal #4: Improve health and wellness of youth 12 to 25 in Tulsa County. To increase capacity, YST commits to engaging in community collaboration efforts, increasing staff to serve more youth and providing training internally and in the community on developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approaches. YST will also provide targeted outreach to females, racial and ethnic minorities and disenfranchised youth. YST will decrease the initiation of use, increase abstinence and mental health recovery by providing screening, assessment, treatment and wraparound substance abuse and co-occurring services. YST will also provide family services as well as prevention and recovery support services. Improved health and wellness will be achieved through case management services for basic needs, housing, education and employment as well as linkage and referral to medical and psychiatric services and Medicaid application assistance.
In the first year, we plan to serve 150 youth and will serve 200 youth during subsequent years. We also plan to expand by providing family support services to new and current youth served.
