Project Abstract Summary Summary of Project: The North Mississippi Commission on Mental Illness/Mental Retardation (DBA Communicare) as an established political subdivision with 32 years of experience and a 18-year proven track record serving the population of focus in previous SAMHSA grants will expand, integrate and sustain the Youth and Family TREE project in Region 2, resulting in integrated system coordination, family-centered, comprehensive evidence-based treatment, including early intervention, and recovery support services within North Mississippi. Project Name: Connect4Success. Populations served: Transitional age youth (16-25 years of age); (48% female; 49% male; 1% transgender) and their families/caregivers; 66% African American, 3% Hispanic/Latino 11% Multi-Racial; 29% White (non-Hispanic); 2% LGB; 100% trauma-involved; 60% Co-occurring Disorders; 1% HIV/HVC positive; 100% in need of SUD/MH treatment and family therapy. Strategies/Interventions: Expands trauma-informed SUD/MH treatment and enhances treatment dosage and intensity by adding state-of-the-science approaches, peer recovery support services and family therapy to meet the individualized needs of transitional aged youth and their families. Participants will receive comprehensive screening, assessments, transitional planning, intensive case management, outpatient and/or intensive outpatient treatment, family therapy and system linkages to wraparound recovery supports. Trauma-informed services include standardized screening/assessment, SUD/MH co-occurring disorders outpatient, or intensive outpatient program coupled with strengths-based case management, HIV/Hepatitis screening/linkage, and peer recovery support services (ensuring linkages to recovery housing, education/employment, healthcare and social supports). EBPs: Motivational Interviewing; Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students; Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students; the MATRIX Model for Teens and Young Adults; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy; Interactive Journaling; Medication Assisted Treatment; Community Reinforcement Family Training Therapy; and SMART Recovery, Self-Management and Recovery Training. Goals. 1) increase the unduplicated # of individuals served with EB services/practices; 2) increase abstinence from the use of alcohol, marijuana, and other substances; 3) increase access/engagement/retention in treatment; 4) improve parenting skills and family functioning; 5) improve educational, employment, and housing stability; 6) decrease involvement in and exposure to crime and violence; 7) improve mental health; and 8) increase access to health services for underserved populations. Objectives: 1) 100% of 450 participants served will receive EB services/practices; 2) 80% of participants will achieve abstinence; 3) 80% will increase access/engagement/retention in treatment; 4) 80% of families/caregivers will improve parenting skills and family functioning; 5) 80% will improve educational, employment and housing stability; 6) 80% will decrease involvement in and exposure to crime and violence; 7) 80% will improve mental health; and 8) 71% of participants served are considered underserved populations. #Served: 50 individuals in Year 1-100 in Years 2-5 = 450 total.
