The Peer-to-Peer Recovery Program Expansion Project will build upon P2P to focus new resources on increasing public awareness of substance abuse,reducing stigma, and increasing outreach and capacity. - Steppingstone Incorporated’s Peer-to-Peer Recovery Program Expansion Project (P2P EP) will build upon existing effective P2P operations. P2P currently operates a recovery center in Fall River, MA and provides peer-based recovery support services delivered through a framework of individual and group support, advocacy and education services and drug-free socialization activities that promote measureable wellness goals of maintained recovery and improved overall quality of life. Through this expansion, P2P EP will focus new resources on increasing public awareness of issues related to drug/alcohol addiction and recovery and reduce stigma through the development and implementation of a broad-based public awareness campaign across the Greater Fall River area. Furthermore, it will outreach to surrounding rural areas, unite existing local recovery supports to build and sustain a coordinated, recovery-oriented system of care which reaches all individuals in need within the GFR community, and expand GFR’s peer-based workforce in order to meet increased demand from individuals reached through the campaign by training 35 new peer volunteers and recovery coaches annually. The P2P recovery center, located at 175 N. Main Street, will also serve an additional 35 individuals annually as part of this Expansion Project. Steppingstone operates residential and outpatient substance use and mental health treatment programs, supportive housing programs, and an emergency shelter program in Fall River, MA which serve approximately 1,000 individuals and families annually. The P2P Project was developed to address challenges faced by individuals in recovery by providing effective peer recovery support services that emphasize social support and value shared experience and success as a determinant in helping peers develop and maintain significant lifestyle changes. While the project has been a huge success and exceeded target enrollment, lack of understanding and stigma related to alcohol and drug use still present barriers to treatment for too many in our community. In order to combat the opioid epidemic which continues to claim lives across GFR and the state, a broad-based public awareness campaign along with expanded outreach and workforce development efforts is needed to promote recovery and reduce harm for at-risk individuals. Through the P2P EP, more people will understand addiction, become aware of how and where to get help, and experience a coordinated and cohesive recovery support system in Greater Fall River. The Campaign will include TV commercials, educational videos, fliers, brochures, social media, special events and other activities. The campaign will be undertaken in concert with the Peer Recovery Leadership Council, which includes individuals in the local recovery community, state and local health representatives, local businesses including medical facility representatives and others, with a focus on providing ongoing direction and guidance to implement new activities and P2P services. New staffing under this expansion will include a 1 FTE PR/MC and 1.5 FTE Peer Recovery Specialist. Current staff includes 1 FTE Project Director, 1 FTE Peer Recovery Specialist Coordinator, and 1 FTE Peer Recovery Specialist along with Peer Volunteers.
