The Town of Stratford, CT, has applied to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for a 2023 Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act Grant in partnership with the Stratford Partnership for Youth and Families - our Local Prevention Council and Drug Free Communities Coalition. Our program, named Stratford Partnership for Youth & Families Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking, will utilize STOP Act funds to create community-level change to prevent and reduce underage drinking among Stratford youth in grades 7-12 using the Strategic Prevention Framework and 7 Strategies for Community-Level Change. We expect to reach more than 25,000 youth and adults annually, and more than 100,000 through the four years, including individuals we will communicate with via our social media platforms.
Our two over-arching goals are:
(1) increase the capacity of the Coalition to support infrastructure development to reduce underage drinking, and,
(2) reduce underage drinking rates, with a focus on youth with higher rates of use including those who identify as LGBTQ+ and Hispanic youth
Our grant activities will include:
(a) expanding Coalition representation;
(b) conducting youth-led Annual Town Hall Meetings
(c) LGBTQ+ cultural competency training for parents and youth-serving professionals
(d) accessing information and skills from the New England Prevention Technical Transfer Center
(e) Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) training and consultation
(f) offering Raising Highly Capable Kids parent training
(g) collecting and disseminating data about youth substance use
(h) disseminating information about CT's social host law, consequences of underage drinking and mental health resources and translating these materials into Spanish
(i) consequences of underage drinking

(k) conducting enforcement activities
(l) reviewing relevant policies
(m) expanding local cultural celebrations to include inclusive and affirming health and wellness resources, and,
