This project will work to solidify prevention efforts in Roberts County and the Lake Traverse Reservation, as well as expand efforts to additional areas near and around Roberts County. - SPF-PFS funding will allow Aliive-Roberts County to work to build prevention infrastructure with our Tribal counterparts, as well as in frontier areas that have never been able to receive services from any other prevention agency. The project will target alcohol and marijuana use among youth ages 9-20 within the original boundaries of the Lake Traverse Reservation, Roberts County, Marshall County, and Day County in South Dakota. In order to expand and enhance the number, reach and effectiveness of community level prevention programs and strategies, we must strengthen its existing prevention infrastructure. To this end, SPF resources will be used to: provide additional prevention training at the community levels; provide technical assistance and resource to assist local communities to strengthen their ATOD awareness, needs assessment, community mobilization, active prevention coalitions, and strategic planning capabilities; provide additional resources at the community level for evidence based prevention strategies and programs that specifically address local community needs; and work to provide additional resources at the community level for evidence based environmental strategies that are specifically designed to affect population level changes in substance abuse and its consequence.
