Strengthen Danbury's local prevention coalition, Stand Together Make a Difference - The work to be performed under this project includes expanding and strengthening the Teen Leadership Health Council. This community council includes students from two local high schools. Both high schools have formed clubs within their schools with a school advisor. Students disseminate information, plan events and promote prevention efforts within the schools as well as assist in community forums, events and education. They hold monthly meetings within the school and attend a monthly community meeting. Capacity building, community collaboration, education, data collection and information dissemination are areas of focus for the local prevention coalition, Stand Together Make a Difference (STMAD). In year two, STMAD will sponsor a freshman forum for freshman and their parent or guardian at Danbury High School, inclusive of Danbury's Alternative School, The Alternative Center for Excellence, (ACE) to educate participants on underage drinking, marijuana, the adolescent brain and positive mental health. Freshman participants from Henry Abbott Technical High School will also be invited. A student survey at Danbury High School will also be administered in grades nine through 12 and for 8th graders. The survey utilized is from the National Search Institute and includes the four core measures.
