Chautauqua County as a low economic status, poverty stricken community with poor county health ranking. There are many barriers that exist with the Hispanic population and outer rural communities receiving services and information surrounding Youth Substance Use. Based on a thorough collection of quantitative and qualitative data, the coalition will work on providing skills, enhancing knowledge and changing policies surrounding underage alcohol use and marijuana. Adult influencers are key individuals that are in contact with youth in the community and are important to the development of youth in our society. HOPE Chautauqua's primary focus will entail youth ages 12-18 years old, however outreach will include all populations. The coalition will work to improve underage alcohol use and marijuana concerns in the community by working the following key stakeholders: schools, organizations, and municipalities. The coalition will reduce accessibility of alcohol to youth under 21 by partnering with key stakeholders on developing a policy to restrict alcohol use in identified areas during public events. Members of the coalition will also work on planning 4 Town Hall meetings to the outer communities, that have limited access to transportation and services, to help provide education surrounding the risks associated with underage alcohol use. The Coalition will look to Enhance Skills with youth, coalition members, professionals in the substance use field and the community through multiple initiatives, including: a mobile prevention unit, Cultural Responsiveness Training, Youth Leadership Academy and Marijuana Workshop. In addition, the coalition will increase youth voice and engagement by partnering with youth groups, in grades 7th-12th throughout the county. Youth group leaders will focus on training and developing youth advocates to assist, create and implement messages on youth misperceptions of risk related to alcohol and prescription pain medication.
