The Imperial Valley Drug Free Communities Coalition (IVDFCC) works with organizations and community members throughout Imperial County on the importance of deterring youth from underage use of alcohol, marijuana and opioids. IVDFCC has chosen to include El Centro, Holtville and Winterhaven for the areas of concern for this grant cycle. In researching, we have found alarming results for the perception of harm for marijuana, the use of alcohol and the lack of knowledge for the dangers regarding opioid use, most specifically Fentanyl, in youth. Researching the areas of need within our County is heavily relied upon reports and interviews from multiple sources such as Federal, State and local law enforcement, California State school testing, and treatment agencies such as Behavioral Health. Collaboration with partnering agencies offer a pathway to strengthen our communities and empower youth. This will be done by comprehensive and evidence based practices for the Seven Strategies for Community-Level Change. Data outcomes gathered through surveys, updated school testing, school report findings as well as increased coalition memberships will assist in measured outcome goals for decreases in youth substance use.
