The Fairfield Prevention Coalition will enhance the Coalition’s current capacity to implement innovative prevention models to mitigate emerging risk factors in order to maintain the downward trend of adolescent alcohol use. The Fairfield Prevention Coalition serves the City of Fairfield and Fairfield Township. These two communities are suburban and located in Southwest Ohio 40 minutes north of Cincinnati. The combined population of Fairfield City and Fairfield Township is 65,000 residents. The proposed project will impact all youth in the City and Township between the ages of 9 and 18. The 2018 PRIDE Student Drug Use Survey, indicates that the population of students are 66.7% Caucasian, (7.9% Hispanic/Latino), 15.1% African American, 7.8%multiracial, 2.6% Asian, .5% native-American and other. The number of youth to be positively impacted throughout the life of the project is 10,400. The goals of the project are to increase local capacity to address alcohol prevention and reduce past 30-day and annual alcohol use among youth grades 7 through 12. The project will align mental and behavioral health prevention efforts between systems focused on youth prevention and increase coalition partnerships to better position the coalition to implement evidence-based prevention programs. The increased capacity will result in cross-sector strategies to decrease the frequency of youth reporting self-medicating with alcohol, decrease the number of youth who report that alcohol is easily accessible and increase adults in the community who are able to infuse prevention into their work with youth.
