The goal of Rhode Island Partnerships for Success II is to implement a comprehensive approach in Rhode Island to prevent and reduce underage drinking. Twenty (20) high need communities will be funded to implement a set of comprehensive, evidence-based practices and policies to address the priority problem of underage drinking with an anticipated total reach of at least 56,749 individuals ages 12-20. RI expects to see a 15% total reduction in underage drinking for youth ages 12-20 by providing funding to the eligible communities using RI's Regional Prevention Task Force structure. This reduction will be accomplished by targeting four (4) intervening variables: retail and social access to alcohol by underage individuals; low perception of risk or harm associated with underage drinking and norms that support underage drinking. Funds will support implementation of a comprehensive set of evidence based strategies to be implemented by the high need communities including: education strategies such as delivery of evidence based curriculum in school settings including middle/junior high schools, high schools and colleges/universities; environmental strategies addressing social and retail access; and/or a workplace intervention aimed at employers of 18-20 year olds that fit the culture and context of their community. Funding will also be used to increase community capacity to address underage drinking and to continue the work of two state level workgroups, the State Epidemiology and Outcomes Workgroup and the Evidence Based Practices Workgroup.
