Provide training and technical assistance to pre-professionals and professionals in the substance abuse prevention field; including education, behavioral health, and primary healthcare. - The Western Mountain Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) will strengthen the workforce pipeline for pre-professionals (i.e., undergraduates, graduates, and residents) and professionals in the substance abuse prevention and health care fields by delivering state-of-the-art technology transfer services that is culturally competent in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. This is important to Region 8 because it is estimated that Region 8 will have a shortage of 11,730 full-time behavioral health positions by 2025. Located at in the Department of Educational Psychology, College of Education at the University of Utah and in partnership with the School of Dentistry at the University of Utah the Western Mountain PTTC will work with SAMHSA's regional administrator, single state agency director's and key regional stakeholders to provide a combination of in-person training, e-learning courses, webinars, and hub/spoke telehealth clinics. The following goals and objectives will guide the work of the Western Mountain PTTC: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key regional stakeholders to strengthen the substance abuse prevention workforce; combine innovative technology and learning strategies; conduct a regional assessment to identify training needs; continuously evaluate program effectiveness and impact; train pre-professionals and professionals in the use of hub/spoke telehealth clinics; facilitate the integration of health systems; serve as a resource on evidence-based and promising practices that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, Tribal and urban Indian communities, prevention coalitions, behavioral and medical care providers, K-12 schools, universities/colleges, racial/ethnic or gender and sexual minority individuals/organizations; develop state-of-the art e-learning courses and webinars to provide on-demand learning opportunities for Region 8 stakeholders. Attaining these goals will result in serving 958 unique individuals per year of the grant and 4,565 over the lifetime of the 5-year project.
