The Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) Alcohol, Marijuana, and Prescription Drug (AMPD) Coalition is a multi-sectoral community coalition whose mission is to unite West Contra Costa County (California) in reducing underage substance use through prevention education, awareness, training, policy, and enforcement. This project proposes to increase collaboration and capacity of youth and community members/organizations to implement evidence-based prevention strategies to prevent and reduce substance use, specifically cannabis and opioids, among youth ages 12-18 in Richmond, California. Specific strategies include: community outreach to grow coalition membership, delivering trainings to increase capacity of coalition members, promoting youth peer advocacy and prevention in schools, increasing youth and parent perception of harm of cannabis and opioids, developing social media campaigns, implementing a Social Host Ordinance diversion program, developing a Lock It Up program to be implemented in partnership with cannabis dispensaries, increasing community awareness of and access to Narcan, and improving referral relationships between emergency departments and juvenile justice programs.
