Drug Free Communities grant with the PACT Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Communities to prevent youth substance abuse in the 89144 zipcode. - The title of the project Drug Free Communities Grant with the PACT Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Communities serving the 89144 zip code. The PACT Coalition was awarded a FY 2018 Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant in the amount of $125,000 by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in cooperation with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The PACT Coalition will focus on prescription drugs and marijuana. PACT will serve approximately 20,872 people in the 89144 zip code. The demographics of the area is as follows: 75% white, 5% African America, 12% Asian, and 5% Hispanic. By September 2024 the PACT Coalition will decrease marijuana and prescription drugs in middle and high schools by 10% as measured by the 2019,2021, and 2023 YRBS. The goals of PACT Coalition are to establish and strengthen community collaboration in support of local efforts to prevent youth substance use. The coalition will achieve its goals by implementing the following strategies: • PACT will increase coalition membership by creating a youth coalition at Rogich MS focusing on the 89144 zip code through announcements,newsletters,the PACT Coalition website,social media and outreach. • PACT staff and Rogich MS youth will hold town hall meetings to educate parents and youth on marijuana and prescription drugs. • A systems level change will be created to address the opioid crisis and work with Rogich MS to reduce youth substance use. • PACT will create student outreach teams to teach younger students about the dangers of drug abuse. • Students at Rogich MS will create a pledge card for parents and students to sign, regarding substance abuse. • PACT will collaborate with local law enforcement,community and governmental agencies to create policy change to address access of drugs for youth.
