The Lakes Area Community Coalition's mission is to provide for a safe and healthy environment for the youth in our Communities. Reducing the use of Alcohol, Marijuana, Prescription and Illicit drugs. - The Lakes Area Community Coalition was awarded a FY 2018 Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant in the amount of $125,000 by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in cooperation with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The Coalition serves the Walled Lake Consolidated School District’s 15,169 students and the cities of Walled Lake, Wixom, Village of Wolverine Lake and Commerce Township, in the State of Michigan, a community of 63,726. The goals of the coalition are to establish and strengthen community collaboration in support of local efforts to prevent youth substance use and abuse. The coalition will achieve its goals by implementing environmental strategies that reduce availability of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs and educate youth, parents and our community on the risk factors associated with teen substance use. The Coalition and its community partners will implement DEA Drug Take Back Days, Parents Who Host, Lose the Most, Above the Influence, High Means DUI Campaigns among other initiatives to build a healthy, drug-free Lakes Area Community.
