The Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition has applied for the FY 2018 Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant in the amount of $125,000 by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in cooperation with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The DFC Project will serve the Reed Custer School district 255U, a community of 10,000 annually. The goals of the project are to establish and strengthen community collaboration in support of local efforts to prevent youth substance use. The coalition will achieve its goals by implementing these strategies: • Strengthening the BAHCC and increasing local collaborations to reduce and prevent substance use throughout the RC255U School District • Increasing parental and community disapproval of underage drinking through the use of environmental strategies such as communication campaigns and enforcement practices • Educating youth and adults about proper medication disposal and the risks associated with opiate use • Cultivating youth leaders in the community by offering opportunities to increase their knowledge and leadership skills • Improving connections to behavioral health services, especially for youth. Listed below are a few measurable goals, objectives, and strategies provided directly by the coalitions DFC 12-Month Action Plan. DFC Goal One: Increase Community Collaboration BAHCC System Goal #1: Increase the number of individuals and organizations that collaborate with BAHCC to reduce and prevent substance use throughout the RC255U School District (Baseline coalition membership roster) Objective 1: Enhance the effectiveness of the BAHCC Board, Leadership, and its members Between September 30th, 2018 and September 29th, 2019, Improve effectiveness of the coalition leadership as measured by an annual Coalition Satisfaction Survey increasing average score yearly by 10% (Baseline to be determined by survey conducted in October 2018). Strategy 1: Utilize training and education to enhance processes and procedures to govern and strengthen BAHCC as a prevention coalition and non-profit organization DFC Goal Two: Reduce Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Plan Goal #2: Reduce misuse of prescription drugs by youth By September 29, 2022, reduce the percentage of Reed-Custer 12th graders who report misusing prescription drugs in the past 30 days by 2 percentage points as measured by the 2018 IYS 255U report. (Baseline 7% as measured by the 2018 IYS; Target: 5% as measured by the 2022 IYS) Objective 1: Increase the perceived risk of prescription drug misuse by youth By September 29, 2020, Increase by 17 percentage points the number of Reed-Custer 12th grade students who report moderate or great risk in using prescription drugs not prescribed to them. Measured by the 2018 IYS 255U report (Baseline 73% as measured by the 2018 IYS; Target: 90% as measured by the 2020 IYS)) Strategy 1: Educate youth about the dangers of prescription drug misuse
