South Dade One Voice Community Coalition intends to implement the P.H.D. Project within the South Miami-Dade Community by educating and informing our youth and their families. Our goals are 1) to increase community collaboration and 2) to decrease youth opioid and methamphetamine substance abuse prevalence rates by implementing SAMHSA's seven strategies for community level change. Measurable objectives include: increase coalition capacity, and a community wide information dissemination campaign. In the targeted zip codes of 33157, 33170, 33032 and surrounding vicinity there is a higher than average risk for identifiable mental health issues. During the 3 year life of the program we intend to serve at least 30,000 people. Our demographics consist of: Zip code 33032; White: 25,316 (65.46%), Black: 10,850 (28.06%), Hispanic: 22,696 (58.69%), Zip code 33157; White: 45,771 (67.38%), Black: 17,744 (26.12%), Hispanic: 30,660 (45.14%) and Zip code 33170; White: 6,791 (50.68%), Black: 5,593 (41.74%), Hispanic: 5,443 (40.62%). Outreach strategies and interventions consist of but are not limited to: 1) Providing the target community with well trained and informed leadership; 2) providing adequate training's for community awareness to grow; 3) participating in PSA's on local radio; 4) placing pill drop boxes at local police stations; 5) highlighting the program in local newspapers; 6) distributing flyers at neighboring elementary, middle & high schools; 7) creating phone messages in various languages to play during hold time at partner agencies; 8) advertising in housing projects & church newsletters; 9) distributing flyers to community feeding programs; 10) providing flyers to community organizations, businesses & medical facilities; 11) placing banners in prominent places in organizations in targeted areas; 12) developing CIA’s with agencies providing services to low-income families; 13) video testimonials from parents & youth via various media platforms; 14) work with local & school LEA officials to analyze enforcement of drug laws (for instance: Drug Free Zones near schools); 15) formation of environmental scan teams; 16) Providing information and training for local prescribers.
