ASAP Supplemental Grant to Curb the Opioid Crisis - ASAP of Anderson County, through funding received through the Community-Based Coalition Enhancement Grant to address Local Drug Crises, will support capacity building and substance use prevention activities in Anderson County, Tennessee related to the opioid crisis. The coalition will serve the Anderson County population of 75,129, focusing on youth, ages 12-17.
Our grant objectives will be three-fold:
Goal One: Strengthen collaboration among 12 sectors in Anderson County to comprehensively enhance infrastructure to reduce opioid misuse, reducing 30-day prevalence prescription drug misuse by .5% among grades 6-12 as measured by June 14, 2023 as measured by prevalence of use from the PRIDE Student Questionnaire.
Objective 1: Reduce access of prescription medications to youth grades 6-12 by 8% by September 29, 2020 as measured by perception of easy access from the PRIDE Student Questionnaire.
Objective 2: Increase awareness of the risk of prescription drug use among parents by 9% by June 14, 2020 as measured by understanding of risks posed by adolescent opioid use from Survey USA Telephone Survey.
Goal Two: Reduce 30-day prevalence of non-medical opioid use by .5% among 6-12 grade as measured by PRIDE Student Questionnaire.
Objective 3: Increase perception of harm of prescription drug misuse among youth, grades 6-12 by 10% by June 14, 2020 as measured by perception of harm for prescription drugs from PRIDE Student Questionnaire.
We will achieve these goals by collaborating with the 12 sectors in our community, through our established network of stakeholders and volunteers, and through our ASAP Youth Ambassadors by implementing a comprehensive and complimentary set of interventions, including Providing Information, Building Skills, Providing Support, Changing Access, Changing Consequences, Modifying the Physical Design of the Environment, and Modifying Policy.
In the three-year project period, 9,000 adolescents and 5,000 parents will be reached. Anderson County, Tennessee is comprised of 91% Caucasian and 52% female.
