The WellSpring CARA project is collaborative effort to reduce and prevent the abuse of Opioids and abuse of prescription medications among youth ages 12-18 in the Ocean Beach School District. The two goals of the project are: 1) To reduce the abuse of opioids and prescription medications among OBSD 10th graders by 10% by June 2021, and 2) Prevent the abuse of opioids and prescription medications among youth. Project objectives are to: 1) Enhance cooperation and coordination between the criminal justice, behavioral health, schools, and socials service systems on the issue of opioids and prescription medications, 2) Increase number of OBSD youth completing substance use treatment by 10% by June 2021.), 3) Reduce perceived availability of drugs by OBSD 8th and 10th graders by 10% by June 2021, 4) Increase perception of peer disapproval by OBSD 8th and 10th graders by 10% by June 2021. 5) Increase perception of parental disapproval by OBSD 8th and 10th graders by 5% by June 2021. It is anticipated that the project will serve 3000 youth and adults within the Ocean Beach School District (1000 annually).
