The prevention of substance use and HIV-related disorders among racial and ethnically diverse youth populations (aged 13-24) is a major public health priority for the United States. There is an urgent need to address the growing health disparities in local inner-city communities related to such disorders among high risk youth. To date, the use of evidence based approaches that integrate substance use and HIV related prevention efforts, such as screening, risk reduction interventions and care coordination, including social media mHealth approaches, in local community health settings is greatly lacking. Prevention Navigation has received considerable attention among researchers, clinicians, and policy makers as a promising strategy to help such service gaps within settings and access issues to integrated services. In response to SAMHSA's FOA SP-17-004, a collaborative team from Azusa Pacific University and Weber Community Center will implement Project Wellness: a Prevention Navigation Approach for increasing Community Preparedness against Substance Misuse and HIV Risk Behaviors among Ethnic and Racial Minority Youth aged 13-24. The goal and objectives of this Project are to build the infrastructure and capacity of Weber setting and the surrounding local community of Service Planning Area (SPA) 6 in Los Angeles County and improve access to substance use and HIV risk integrated services among racial and ethnic youth aged 13-24 via Project Wellness.
