Ketchikan Wellness Coalition (KWC) will engage the community in reducing youth (12-17) substance use through a variety of methods such as increasing drug awareness, challenging perceptions of harm for substances, and creating programming and events to support Ketchikan youth. KWC will use the strategic prevention framework as outlined by SAMSHA as well as the seven strategies for effective community change. KWC will advocate for policies that will reduce youth drug misuse by working with local and state government. KWC will partner with local providers and organizations to build capacity. KWC will collect and analyze data from local government and other organizations along with local level population indicators such as the Youth Risk Behavioral Survey. KWC will work towards building a sustainable program that will continue to exist once DFC funds are exhausted.
