Counselor Education and Campus Police Partnership for Suicide Intervention and Mental Health Co-Response - Clemson University (CU) will implement the Counselor Education and Campus Police Partnership for Suicide Intervention and Mental Health Co-Response to strengthen suicide prevention, behavioral health crisis response, and coordinated intervention for students in crisis. The project will support hiring a Counselor Education graduate student as an Embedded Mental Health Co-Responder (EMHCR) with campus police and develop an integrated crisis response, referral, follow-up, and postvention protocol linking campus police, counseling services, student affairs, residence life, 988/local crisis services, and community behavioral health providers. Direct screening, referral, follow-up, and co-response activities will focus primarily on students. Each project year, campus police and the EMHCR will provide follow-up contact and referral coordination to at least 15 students, refer at least 10 students with identified suicide risk, ideation, behavioral health crisis, or substance use concern to appropriate services, and conduct voluntary screening with ASIST-informed suicide intervention and referral for at least 15 students. Each year, at least 12 campus police officers and the EMHCR will receive evidence-based suicide intervention training, and at least 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and family members will be exposed to mental health awareness, suicide prevention, substance misuse prevention, resilience, and help-seeking messages.
