There will be a couple focal points with having the Pala 988 Tribal Response Program, such as providing sufficient access to resources and support to the American Indian and Alaska Native populations. With establishing collaborations and partnerships between 988 crisis centers, tribal and non-tribal agencies, organizations and health providers, service providers and first responders will have access to culturally specific mental health training allowing them the ability to better respond to and understand when working with the American Indian population. In addition, resources and referrals will be established and available for the initial crisis care but also for continuous care and follow up. A primary focus for this program is to establish a collaborative relationship with the local 988 call center, San Diego Access and Crisis Line. Due to this being the primary access to immediate mental health crisis services for the area, this is a critical focus for resources to support the tribal community. The other primary focus of this Tribal Response Program is to improve and expand the ability to provide culturally responsive behavioral services through education and training. With the collaboration of multiple agencies, comprehensive trainings will be provided centered on both providing behavioral health/crisis services and also culturally relevant/bias reduction to improve culturally centered interactions and relations.
